PART I-B (decided to study, work and face life)
On the path to "good," the teacher realizes that Carlos is going through serious difficulties and goes to his house, finding a deplorable situation (his mother visibly ill, lack of food, etc.). Here, the teacher's character gains strength, as she leaves the school's perimeter and goes into the neighborhood to see why Carlos is doing poorly, if he is doing well. She sees the person beyond the student. How can the student be getting good grades if his life is a tragedy?
Slum scene: insert a scene of a steep alleyway, covered with tarpaulin, water and soap, and the kids sliding down having fun... Carlos might be passing by, remember that he's still a child and join in the fun.
School scenes:
-
The teacher begins to show social projects within favelas, teaching Carlos and showing him that it's not easy, but it is possible…
-
-
Show Carlos struggling to get charity work to get clothes, food baskets, etc., through the support network of the favela/church...
VOD recounting when she chose to study: I studied, I worked hard, I worked (running images), it was tough…
(scene of trying to find work and doors closing, selling peanut brittle at a traffic light… working at the market…)
VOD: I relied on help from NGOs and social and cultural projects in the community, and my teacher was fundamental in my life.
(teacher scene).
VOD: She showed me that it's possible… And here I am, with a degree in IT and working in this beautiful building here… (Itaim)
Julio goes to Itaim to talk to the Big Boss (at the beginning of the script the boss arranged a meeting with one of the Big Bosses of the faction in the office (Itaim)).
****Cross the scenes in the two tracks so that Julio's Big Boss and the drug dealers' Big Boss are the same Boss as Carlos's in the version where he chooses to study and ends up working at a large company in Itaim.
When choosing to study, there's another choice: whether or not to participate in the company's corruption scheme...
